August 2005 – A 58-acre site bound by Illinois Route 159, Governor’s Parkway, and Troy Road in the Edwardsville – Glen Carbon area will soon be home to another Dierbergs shopping center.
Dierbergs – Edwardsville Crossing will be only the second of the St. Louis-based grocery chain’s stores to be located in Illinois. Founded in 1854, the stores remained a Missouri enterprise until 2001 when TWM provided the surveying and civil engineering for Dierbergs Green Mount Crossing, a 57-acre shopping center at the corner of I-64 and North Green Mount Road in Shiloh.
The development is a joint venture between Dierbergs stores and Capitol Land Company. When the same partnership decided to build in Edwardsville/Glen Carbon, it again chose TWM to provide the civil engineering and surveying. TWM’s responsibilities include civil site engineering, sanitary sewer, storm sewer and water system design, parking lots, ingress/egress and roadway improvements. The approach to storm water management is somewhat unique to this project in that all storm water for the site will be directed to a regional detention pond west of Rte. 159 to be constructed by the City of Edwardsville.
Aside from the 71,401 sq. ft. grocery store, the plans for the new site consist of a strip center, 157,250 square feet for junior anchor national retailers and 13 outlot parcels for restaurants and other freestanding buildings.
Dierbergs plans to open its store in early Fall 2006.
