SAFB Dormitory Built to New DoD Standard

N12

June 2007 – TWM is providing civil site design and land surveying for a new $18.3 million airmens dormitory at Scott Air Force Base. The building, which is the Air Force’s first dormitory built to the new Department of Defense 1 + 1 module construction standard, is expected to be complete in 2008.

The 1 + 1 model allows individual residents more privacy than the current dorms do. Each resident will have an individual room and will share a small fully functional kitchen and a bathroom with neighbors.

The project requires TWM to design the site to anti-terrorism standards. The firm’s responsibilities include topographic survey, applications for permits and reviews, record survey and drawings, civil design analysis and calculations including domestic and fire water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, grading & paving, curb & gutter, accessible parking, and an erosion control plan, along with construction staking for the building and parking lot. TWM will also design the widening of Ward Drive, a main arterial street. The roadway modifications require the installation of traffic signals along Ward Drive at West Winter and at West Birchard.

Other members of TWM’s design/build team include The Korte Company of Highland, Illinois, and Baker Architects of Alexandria, Virginia.
