American Water Providing Major Upgrades at Scott AFB

April 2010 – American Water Company’s Military Services Group (AWMSG) is upgrading water mains base-wide at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois.  The company, which is responsible for operating and maintaining the water distribution and treatment facilities on base, selected TWM as part of a design-build team with Ehret, Inc.  TWM is providing land surveying, civil engineering design, and construction observation services for the project.

The Scott AFB water system serves a population of approximately 15,000, and consists of about 70 miles of pipe.  TWM previously provided the same services for construction of a 16” water transmission main to provide water to the Scott Air Force Base system. The 31,000 linear foot ductile iron pipe replaced an existing steel water main that was originally constructed in the early 1950s. In addition to the aforementioned services, TWM prepared a detailed GIS map to facilitate easy location of the water mains in the future.
