December 2011 – The latest addition to the Memorial Hospital campus in Belleville, Illinois, is the new Orthopedic and Neurosciences Building. TWM provided the civil site design for this new three-story medical office building on 9 acres. The project included a 284-space bituminous concrete parking lot, concrete loading dock, two storm water detention basins, off-site sanitary sewer extension, associated utility improvements, relocation and redesign of the entrance off Dapron Drive, and integration into the hospital’s overall campus.
Knowing the new building’s location at the busy intersection of Frank Scott Parkway and Dapron Drive would increase traffic, the City of Belleville also asked TWM to improve the efficiency of that intersection. In doing so, TWM relocated the entrance of Kurrus Funeral Home across the street to meet Dapron Drive at the signalized intersection, provided land surveying, prepared the Intersection Design Study, designed the new intersection, and then prepared Phase 2 construction plans for improvements to Dapron, including pavement design, retaining wall, storm sewer and sidewalk design, center planting islands, widening and asphalt overlay. TWM effectively integrated both projects to enhance not only the safety but also the visual appeal of the area.
For several decades, Memorial Hospital has relied upon TWM’s engineering and land surveying expertise. As the hospital has grown, TWM has assisted on projects both on the main hospital campus and for medical office buildings and outlying locations in neighboring communities.
