June 2014 – American Water Military Services Group, a branch of the largest publicly traded U.S. water and wastewater utility company and client of TWM, received a Phase III Directors Award for Distribution System Optimization for the water distribution systems it manages at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois and Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
These are the first American Water distribution system projects to receive this prestigious award. The award recognizes American Water’s successful completion of a comprehensive self-assessment of the water system operations to ensure safe, high-quality drinking water for the military community.
TWM played an integral role in the design of the updated and optimized facilities at SAFB. The firm provided land surveying, civil engineering and construction observation services for the replacement of 68,000 linear feet of water mains base-wide and for the replacement of the 31,000 linear foot 16-inch primary transmission main serving SAFB. TWM’s duties included research of existing facilities and easements, preparation of new easements, plans and specifications, and storm water prevention plan, and acquisition of IEPA, storm water, highway and railroad permits.
TWM’s GIS mapping of the entire water main system provides military personnel with extensive knowledge of their underground infrastructure, which is especially important for the installation of new mains both now and in the future.
