Traffic Engineer / Project Manager

Last year, the St. Louis Business Journal named Thouvenot, Wade & Moerchen, Inc. as the 16th Largest Engineering Firm in the entire St. Louis metropolitan area. The firm currently employs almost 100 professional and support staff. Our corporate headquarters is in Swansea, IL, about 15 miles east of downtown St. Louis. Our Waterloo, IL, branch office is about 15 miles east of the JB Bridge. And our Edwardsville, IL, office is off IL Rt. 157, about 16 miles east of the I-270 bridge over the Mississippi River. We plan to expand our presence in St. Louis and other markets in the near future.

Because of increasing workload, we would like to add an experienced Traffic Engineer / Project Manager to our Transportation Department in the Swansea, IL, branch office. Applicants must have a BS in civil or traffic/transportation engineering and excellent written and verbal communication skills. A PE license is preferred. Should be licensed by the State of Illinois, or able to easily obtain that licensure. Missouri license is a plus, as is a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer certification. However, experienced candidates who have not yet achieved licensure will also be considered.

We are looking for someone with enough experience and ability to join our team and immediately help in managing and designing a wide variety of state, county and local road projects. At a minimum, need five years experience with at least two years in the design of roads, streets and / or highways. Previous project management a plus as is demonstrated ability with GEOPAK / MicroStation / AutoCAD. Responsibilities of the position could also include: Traffic impact / analysis studies, transportation system analyses, intersection design studies, crash analyses, traffic signal warrant analyses, roadway plan preparation, intersection capacity analysis, roadway system modeling, geometric improvement layout, drainage system design, intersection detail preparation, coordination of intersection turning movement counts & reduction of data. Knowledge of traffic signal plans and layout a plus.

The “ideal candidate” will possess most if not all of the following: Knowledge of traffic engineering principles and standards and ability to interpret and apply in various situations; Direct experience in the above responsibilities on both public and private sector projects; Prior experience with capacity analysis and simulation using Synchro/SimTraffic and HCS software; Strong design skills utilizing MicroStation/GeoPak and/or AutoCAD; Direct experience with DOT, county and/or municipal transportation and traffic projects; Ability to design and administer complex projects and to manage both projects and support staff; and the ability to write clear, concise reports.
