Project Description

Eckert Bike Trail Loop – Phase I

  • LOCATION: Belleville, IL

  • CLIENT: St. Clair County Transit District & MetroLink

  • CONSTRUCTION COST: $4.5 million

TWM is designing a 8-mile loop trail on a new alignment that connects to the 11-mile MetroBikeLink trail system. Phase I is 2.9 miles of trail and traverses through southeast Belleville, connecting subdivisions, a school, and Eckert’s Fruit Farm, a poplar destination. The trail has sweeping views of the Belle Valley. Where the trail crosses IL 158/177, a crossing study was completed, including vehicular and pedestrian counts.  TWM recommended widening the highway to allow for a refuge island with flashing beacons. Future phases will connect the Spy Glass and Orchard Subdivision (via a bridge over Green Mount Road) and the Plum Hill Subdivision to Brookhill Subdivision, completing the 8 mile loop back to the MetroBikeLink.
