A TWM Today Story
When people ask how TWM has lasted 80 years, the answer isn’t found in a project list, a balance sheet, or a timeline of milestones. The answer is much simpler: relationships.
Back in 1946, TWM began the same way many successful businesses do—not with grand ambitions of becoming a multi-discipline engineering firm, but with a commitment to serving clients, solving problems, and building trust one project at a time. The firm was small, local, and deeply connected to the community it served.
A lot has changed since then. The roads we design are larger. The communities we support have grown. Technology has transformed nearly every aspect of engineering, surveying, planning, and construction. Today’s projects are more complex than ever, requiring expertise across multiple disciplines and collaboration among diverse teams.
Yet in many ways, the things that matter most haven’t changed at all.
Throughout the decades, TWM has evolved alongside the clients and communities we serve. We’ve expanded our services, embraced innovative technologies, and grown our team to meet emerging challenges. But we’ve always believed that engineering is ultimately a people business. Behind every roadway, water system, development, or infrastructure improvement are relationships built on trust, communication, and a shared commitment to making communities better.
Many of our client relationships span decades. Some have extended across multiple generations of engineers, public officials, business owners, and community leaders. Those long-standing partnerships have helped shape who we are and continue to remind us that our success isn’t measured only by the projects we’ve completed, but by the trust we’ve earned along the way.
Driving the Mission Forward
One of the most significant chapters in our history came with TWM’s transition to 100% employee ownership. Becoming an ESOP wasn’t just a business decision, it reflected TWM’s belief that the people who help build the company should have a direct stake in its future and it also reinforced a culture that had existed for years. Today, that ownership mindset still shows up in every project we work on—through accountability, collaboration, and pride in delivering on our mission of Exceptional Service. Nothing Less.
For our clients, that ownership mindset matters too. When clients work with TWM, they’re working with employee-owners who are personally invested in the outcome of their projects. Decisions are made with long-term relationships in mind. Challenges are approached collaboratively. Success is shared. The result is a level of commitment that extends beyond delivering a project, it’s a genuine investment in our clients’ goals and the communities they serve.
The Things That Matter Most
As we celebrate 80 years, we also want to reflect on some of the lessons that have guided us throughout the journey. We’ve learned that while technical expertise is essential, establishing and nurturing relationships really allow a business to grow across generations. We’ve learned the importance of adapting to growing industries, communities, and evolving technologies, yet understand that staying true to our core values—relationships, loyalty, quality, stability, and ambition—defines who we are and what has guided us from the beginning. We’ve learned that growth is meaningful, but never at the expense of the personalized service and trusted partnerships our clients expect and deserve. And most importantly, we’ve learned that getting the job done right, day after day, project after project, is what creates a foundation for lasting success.
Shaping a New Beginning
From transportation, structural design, water infrastructure, and land development to surveying, GIS, and construction inspection, TWM’s story is one of steady growth grounded in trust—and built to last. What started as a modest engineering practice has grown into a multi-discipline firm serving communities across the Midwest and Southeast.
Eighty years later, TWM continues to grow, guided by the same principles and core values that shaped its early years: loyalty to clients, strong relationships, technical excellence, and a commitment to doing the right thing. We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished, grateful for the clients and communities who have trusted us, and excited about what lies ahead. As we look toward the next chapter, we’ll continue to invest in our people, strengthen the relationships that have always defined us, and help shape the communities we serve.
Because while much has changed since 1946, one thing remains constant: our commitment to Exceptional Service. Nothing Less.
