TWM and a sub-consultant were hired by Great Rivers Greenway (GRG) to develop a system-wide bridge inspection program to ensure that structures are appropriately maintained by GRG and/or GRG’s partners for safety and longevity. TWM reviewed the structure inventory, conducted site visits to verify information, and suggested changes to GRG’s file structure and GIS asset inventory.
Our team also gathered information on current structure inspection practices of GRG’s partner agencies and provided an overview of the federal, state, and local inspection policies. We recommended separating the structures into 3 classes. Our report provides guidelines for the information that should be collected and documented during each inspection, including condition ratings, repair recommendations, photos, and sketches, if necessary. Project included inspections of 10 structures along Grant’s Trail that were a mix of materials, such as precast concrete, steel beam, timber beam, steel truss superstructures, concrete substructures, timber/concrete piles, concrete box culverts, and corrugated metal pipes.
