2018 Snapshot:

As TWM celebrates 80 years of engineering excellence, the Lockmann Bridge Truss Launch along the Scott-Troy Bike Trail stands as a powerful example of innovation, precision, and problem-solving in action. This project involved the launch of a 225′ shared-use steel truss bridge above two CSX railroad tracks, a county roadway, and a tributary to Canteen Creek—an operation that required meticulous planning and flawless execution.

The 222-kip, single-span bridge was constructed piece by piece on the trail bed behind the south abutment, then carefully launched into place using a longitudinal cable pull system and two temporary support towers placed on top of existing railroad piers. During each stage of construction, TWM provided detailed calculations and geometry control plans to manage deflections, elevations, fabricated camber, and tight clearances under overhead power lines. With adjustable steel support towers and real-time field coordination, the design allowed contractors to make precise adjustments during the launch, ensuring the bridge arrived exactly where it needed to be at final placement.

Eighty years after our founding, projects like this reflect what continues to define TWM: technical expertise, creative engineering, and a commitment to delivering solutions that safely connect communities—now and for generations to come.
