MetroBikeLink Bridge Over 159 – Swansea, IL
The St. Clair County Transit District requested a “signature bridge” where MetroBikeLink crosses IL Route 159 in order to raise awareness of the trail and thus encourage its use. TWM did so by designing a 244’, 3-span rolled steel beam bridge with decorative fencing, lighting, and signage. By employing “standard” construction items such as precast arched panels, form liner piers, colored concrete and an ornate, welded bridge rail, TWM was able to mimic a brick and stone arched bridge, providing a distinctive look and delivering on the goal of a signature bridge at a more reasonable cost. Some components have became the “brand” for future SCCTD trail crossings. TWM developed multiple preliminary designs and layouts to assist the client in selecting the look that they envisioned.
