McKinley Realignment Pedestrian Trail and Bridge Design
TWM provides pedestrian trail and bridge design services for various government agencies in Illinois and Missouri. TWM’s MetroBikeLink Trail engineers designed a new (and safer) 3,500 ft trail segment near McKinley Avenue to replace the nearby on-road trail. It is elevated on bridges with mechanically-stabilized earth walls along most of its length within the Metro right-of-way.
Two new trail bridges will be added at Carlyle and McClintock Avenues as well. TWM used lightweight fill to minimize settlement along the active MetroLink tracks, and minimized the quantity of cellular concrete where possible to reduce construction costs. In addition, TWM coordinated the relocation of overhead electrical lines and analyzed the external stability of the walls.
