TWM’s retaining wall design was part of the overall design for a new, safer 3,500’ trail segment. This segment replaced the nearby on-road trail and elevated it on bridges and MSE walls along most of its length within the Metro ROW.
The existing adjacent Metro MSE walls were expected to settle 8-12” if the new walls were constructed with normal-weight fill material.
TWM successfully overcame this challenge by specifically designating the use of lightweight fill to minimize settlement along the active MetroLink tracks. Other features of the new wall worth noting – the new walls provided increased lateral resistance, and construction costs were reduced through our ability to minimize the quantity of cellular concrete used wherever possible. Additional services included coordinating the relocation of overhead electrical lines, analysis of the external stability of the walls, and the preparation of plans, specifications, and estimates.
