The City of O’Fallon has contracted with TWM to provide transportation and roadway engineering design services to extend the existing portion of West Elm Street to North Main Street. The goal of this project is to connect the existing pavement, constructed as part of the O’Fallon Station Development, with North Main Street, and realign West Elm Street to allow for safe travel through the intersection.
The project includes full depth reconstruction to provide for a 24 foot wide roadway with curb and gutter, storm sewer system, and a 6 foot wide concrete sidewalk adjacent to the north side of the roadway, traffic signal upgrades along with accessible ramps and pedestrian crossing facilities. The existing West Elm Street pavement is currently deteriorated with no curb and gutter, and a non-existent storm system.
The extension of West Elm Street will provide a connecting corridor for a full east/west roadway connecting T.R. Hughes Blvd to Woodlawn Avenue. Improvements to West Elm Street will allow for more efficient traffic movements in the area. This project is part of the City’s long-term thoroughfare plan, and is something the City has been planning for many years.
