Western Illinois University Student Center

TWM’s student center building design services included civil and structural engineering and land surveying for this addition and renovation of the existing Donald H. Spencer Student Recreation Center at Western Illinois University in Macomb. Since its construction in 1997, the rec center has experienced increased levels of usage by students, faculty and staff. The university decided to construct the addition to accommodate the current usage level and to allow for future growth.
The project included a building addition to house two new sport courts, expansion of the weight room into the existing basketball court, and an elevated extension to the existing running track, along with other support facilities. Air conditioning was added to the entire facility.
TWM’s services included design of the civil site, grading plan, and steel frame structure, including the supporting structure for the elevated running track. Contract drawings were produced for all aspects of the project.
