As part of a design-build team, TWM performed stormwater management engineering services to alleviate street ponding throughout a section of Scott Air Force Base and to replace an aging stormwater pump station and force main. TWM worked closely with the construction contractors to facilitate the use of a GPS-controlled Komatsu excavator to perform precise excavation of pipe trenches that reached as deep as 16 feet. Over 5,000 linear feet of storm sewer will have been repaired or replaced at the project’s end. Pipes will either be completely replaced or relined depending on the extent of the corrosion.
More specifics on the scope:
- Two new 295 HP, variable-drive pumps and a control system were installed in the pump station
- Three forcemains exiting the pump station were redesigned and replaced
- A USBR Type VI outlet structure was installed to prevent erosion in Ash Creek
- TWM also provided topographic surveying and construction layout
