TWM, Inc., one of the top engineering and geospatial firms in the metro-east St. Louis area, is proud to announce the Jim Barganier Memorial Scholarship, honoring the legacy of our late colleague and surveyor, Jim Barganier, PLS. The $2,500 scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior who plans to enroll full-time at a community college or university in the upcoming academic year and pursue a degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) related field.

Jim earned his bachelor’s degree in Industrial Technology-Engineering from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL. He joined TWM in 2017, where he quickly became known as a valued colleague and part of the TWM family. Through dedication and continuous learning, Jim became a licensed Professional Land Surveyor in the Geospatial Group, contributing his expertise to countless projects.
“Jim was passionate about surveying and inspiring the next generation of STEM professionals,” said Josh Hoffmann, Director of Geospatial Services. “This scholarship is a way to celebrate his life, legacy, and contributions while supporting students who share that same curiosity and drive.”
Beyond his professional achievements, Jim enjoyed the outdoors and loved hunting, camping, fishing, and anything involving water—especially spending time on his boat. He also shared his love of sports by coaching both of his sons’ baseball teams. His energy, laughter, kindness, and mentorship left a lasting impression on everyone who knew and worked with him.
“Creating this scholarship is our tribute to Jim’s remarkable life and to support and inspire the next generation of STEM leaders who are pursuing their dreams,” said Chief Operating Officer, Derek Twente, PLS, EI. “His dedication and enthusiastic spirit were contagious, and everyone who worked with him felt that impact.”
