Recognized for Missouri Route 100 Rehabilitation Project in the Transportation Category

TWM, Inc., is excited to announce the firm has received a Grand Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of Missouri for its exemplary work on the rehabilitation of Missouri Route 100, locally known as Manchester Road, in the St. Louis Metropolitan Area. The Grand Award is the highest award given out in a particular category for the year.

This award acknowledges the project’s innovative design, complex coordination efforts, and significant positive impact on the community. “I’m proud of TWM’s accomplishment and our team’s dedication and collaboration to improve the communities we serve,” said St. Louis Branch Manager, J.R. Landeck, PE, PLS, and Project Manager of the Missouri Route 100 project.

The Missouri Route 100 (Manchester Road) Rehabilitation Project, spanning 4.7 miles, addressed critical infrastructure challenges and exemplified resilience in the face of various obstacles. Notably, the project involved TWM’s collaboration with numerous utilities, public government and non-government agencies, the local transit authority, a railroad, and six different municipalities.

Key Achievements of the Missouri Route 100 Rehabilitation Project

TWM successfully navigated coordination challenges, showcasing exceptional teamwork and effective communication. Regular communication with key stakeholders created an inclusive project that maximized the investment of all entities, despite and during the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • The project encompassed improvements to road conditions, signage, pavement drainage, traffic signals, pavement markings, ADA-compliant sidewalks, and pedestrian facilities to enhance connectivity for non-motorized transportation.
  • Incorporating LiDAR technology early in the design phase and utilizing innovative construction methods minimized conflicts with utilities and reduced the impact on the traveling public.
  • Roadway safety was a priority for the entire project corridor. Midblock crossings equipped with Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons enhanced pedestrian visibility on the roadway.
  • An arched pedestrian underpass provided a grade separation for a 1,000’ trail extension, ensuring the safety of bicyclists and pedestrians by allowing them to cross seamlessly underneath Manchester Road.
  • Bundling additional capital improvement projects from outside agencies further minimized the impact on the public and helped save taxpayer dollars.
  • A robust public engagement campaign garnered community support through open house-style meetings and one-on-one discussions. The Cities of Brentwood and Kirkwood contributed funds for beautification efforts, creating a cohesive identity for residents to take pride in.

This ACEC Missouri Engineering Excellence Grand Award is a testament to TWM’s commitment to excellence, along with its many collaborators. Together, they helped make Manchester Road and its surrounding communities feel safer, more accessible, and better connected.
