The purpose of this project was to collect high-water locations/elevations and some adjacent finished floor elevations using mobile LiDAR. As most are aware, Puerto Rico is no stranger to flooding, hurricanes, and landslides. The latest hurricane, Fiona, dumped over 30” of rain on parts of the island. This ongoing flooding is imposing critical threats to the islands habitat through erosion and loss of wetlands. In efforts to minimize the threat of flood damage and protect against flash floods there are plans to build flood barrier walls throughout the island (based on the data we’re collecting).
